Venue for 15th ITRS

One of the last activities at the 14th ITRS in Brest in July will be to announce the venue for the 15th ITRS.

Accordingly, Expressions of Interest to host the 15th ITRS are invited.

In considering an EOI, please note the following:

ITRS events typically alternate between northern and southern hemispheres. However exceptions have and can be made! All we know at this point is that ITRS must travel and therefore it is expected that the next venue will be outside of Europe. Thus, we anticipate that the next ITRS will be held either in the southern hemisphere beginning of 2028, or in the non-European northern hemisphere at the beginning of summer 2028.

ITRS events have a very special feel that keeps drawing us back time and time again. We expect that the next host will have a deep experience of ITRS events. This helps to ensure that we maintain the traditions of informality and friendliness, warm welcoming of students, keeping costs as low as possible, etc.

In preparing your EOI, we will be looking for convincing evidence that you are able to make a firm commitment to the task, and that you will be able to raise a sufficient local organising committee. We would also welcome any commentary about the special attractions of your institution and area to hosting the next ITRS!

If you would like to embark on the adventure of organising this symposium, then please download the template at the bottom of this webpage which will guide you in expressing your intentions and talking about the local organising team.

Please send your EOI to itrs@ifremer.fr by CoB CET Friday February 28th . The final decision will be taken by an ad-hoc committee of long term ITRS attendees three months before this year's edition, to give the next hosts sufficient time to think about how they would like to make the announcement this coming July.

Measuring and offsetting the impact of the event
Optimizing travel
Giving priority to the local network

What You Can Do

We encourage travelers to the conference to:

Use trains or buses instead of air travel, where possible.
If arriving by air, use public transit or arrange carpools with other travelers instead of using a personal rental car.
Bring reusable items such as cups, mugs and water bottles to limit the need for disposable items.
Offset your travel-related carbon usage. There are many options to purchase carbon offset credits.

Refund policy

ITRS will be a fully in-person meeting. The conference organisers have established the following registration cancellation and refund policy:

If an attendee cancels their registration before March 1, 2025, a full refund will be provided, less a 75€ administrative fee.
If an attendee cancels their registration between March 1, 2025 and June 1, 2025, a 50% refund will be provided.
If an attendee cancels their registration June 2, 2025 or later, no refund will be provided but the registration can be transferred to another person.

Written notification of cancellation must be sent to our email address inscriptions@lequartzcongres.com by the appropriate date.

The International Temperate Reefs Symposium (ITRS) is the premier conference for marine scientists with a focus on temperate hard-bottom habitats. The scope is broad and captures natural rocky reefs, man-made structures and biogenic surfaces. Ecology is a key focus, but the meeting also caters for other scientific disciplines relevant to temperate reef biology including biogeochemistry, genetics, oceanography, remote sensing, biogeography and management, not to mention the vast array of interdisciplinary links.
